I shot Rob Flynn, vocalist for Machine Head, for the cover of Metal Hammer magazine. The guys at the mag liked a personal shoot I had done recently (see the project Belle #3 here on my Behance profile) and wanted something similar with Rob, so we shot the concept of him posing in quite a static way, with a ghostlike screaming version of him to the side, almost as if we were seeing his inner turmoil.

I shot him with a blue/green fill in flash on the front and slightly to the left, to create the staic version of him, with a red flash from behind and to the left as a key light on his hair. Then his right hand side was lit with a red gelled LED panel (ie constant light), so when I shot him on a 1 second exposure and got him to go from a static pose then turn his head to the side and scream, the whole thing was captured in camera.

Rob was a great sport and is a great guy to photograph, which made the whole shoot much easier.
